Henry Dunant (1828–1910) is renowned as the initiator of the world's largest humanitarian aid organization, the ICRC. What is less known is Dunant’s travel to North Africa at age 25 which he undertook on behalf of the «Geneva Trading Company of the Swiss Colonies of Sétif». It was the starting point for his work as a colonial administrator and businessman, which would shape him and leave its mark on his life. How can Henry Dunant's colonial activities be reconciled with his philanthropic world view?
