Alpen Resort Avers – touristic gigantism

Around 60 years ago, the unique landscape of Avers was close to get entirely covered under concrete. A group of investors from Geneva had planned to set up a vacation village with 10,000 guest beds, 16 lifts, 4 cable cars and 1 airport for helicopters. The project was indicative of the time period – and is more relevant than ever, as resorts are shooting out of the ground like mushrooms. In 1978, after fifteen years of planning, the project was buried.
